redball.gif (102 bytes)Army Performance Excellence Award: The Army Performance Excellence Award (APEA) Program was approved by Acting Secretary of the Army, the Honorable Brownlee, in August 2003, as the Army Capstone's award program for organizational performance excellence.  The program recognizes organizations for their overall performance and improvement efforts as well as serves as a vehicle for sharing best ideas and techniques across the Army. 2004 marks the initial year for this program.

redball.gif (102 bytes) President's Quality Award Program:  The President's Quality Award Program, administered by the Office of Personnel Management, recognizes federal organizations that have documented high-performance management systems and approaches.

redball.gif (102 bytes) Plain Language Award: Plain Language Award recognizes federal employees who write regulations, letters, and other government documents in plain language that anyone can understand. The National Partnership for Reinventing Government administers this award.

redball.gif (102 bytes) The Secretary of Defense Productivity Excellence Award:  The Department of Defense established the Secretary of Defense Productivity Excellence Award in 1983 to recognize individuals and small groups who made substantial improvements in the quality and productivity of Defense operations through suggestions, special acts, or other management improvement initiatives. · The contributions of the recipients must be adopted and employed, with a verified savings of $1 million dollars over a 12 month period.

redball.gif (102 bytes) Chief of Staff, Army Installation Incentive Award Program:  This award is part of the Army Communities of Excellence (ACOE) program.  The ACOE program is a commander's process which is broad enough to accommodate a variety of approaches that can be tailored to any organization, command or installation. Leaders and managers take advantage of the entrepreneurial genius of the people within the community to develop better ways of helping people and getting work done. It is a program which encourages ideas and initiatives to float upward.

redball.gif (102 bytes) Army Suggestion Program:  The Army Suggestion Program (ASP) is an incentive program that encourages soldiers and civilians within the Department of the Army to submit ideas that, if adopted, will result in increased efficiencies and reduced costs.  

redball.gif (102 bytes) State Quality Award Programs:  Several states throughout the country have instituted state-wide quality award programs of their own for which Army and other federal government organizations may be eligible to apply. Army organizations are strongly encouraged to seek out opportunities to compete for performance excellence initiatives available within their states.

redball.gif (102 bytes) The Innovations in American Government Award:   This awards program of the Ford Foundation and Harvard University provides cash awards to innovative programs of state, local, and federal organizations. This award is administered by the John F. Kennedy School of Government in partnership with the Council for Excellence in Government. The Innovations in American Government awards are intended to draw attention to exemplary in government problem-solving and to amplify the voices of public innovators in communicating their practices. In addition, the Kennedy School develops instructional materials based on the contributions of award-winning innovations to the art of creative problem-solving in the public sector.

Flemming Awards:  Established by the Downtown Jaycees in 1948, the Flemming Awards honor outstanding Federal employees.  Nominees may include any career Federal employee, who has no more than fifteen years of government service. Twelve separate awards will be made in three categories - scientific, administrative, and applied science.

redball.gif (102 bytes) David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award:  The David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award is established to recognize DoD civilian and/or military organizations, groups, or teams, who have made highly significant contributions which demonstrated exemplary innovation and best acquisition practices. These are multiple awards reflecting achievements that exemplify goals and objectives established for furthering life cycle cost reduction and/or acquisition excellence in DoD. Other acquisition awards can be found on the Under Secretary of  Defense (Acquisition & Technology) website.

redball.gif (102 bytes) Public Service Excellence Award: The awards program was initiated by Public Employees Roundtable, a non-profit, non-partisan coalition of 39 management and professional associations representing some 1 million public employees and retirees. The mission of the Roundtable is to educate Americans about the quality of people in government and the value of the services they provide, to improve excellence and esprit de corps among public employees, and to encourage interest in public service careers.

redball.gif (102 bytes) RIT/USA Today Quality Cup: The RIT/USA TODAY Quality Cup Competition recognizes teams who make significant contributions to the improvement of quality in their organization. The competition is conducted as a cooperative academic-industry effort between the College of Business, Rochester Institute of Technology and USA TODAY.

redball.gif (102 bytes) Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence Award's Program (New Jersey): The program pursues this objective by offering the Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence at three levels (Gold,   Silver and Bronze), and the Governor’s Area of Excellence awards (names and eligibility vary depending on the three sets of criteria, business, education and health care.  Applicants apply for the Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence or one of the Areas of Excellence Awards (not in education). The Governor’s Performance Excellence criteria examine the applicant’s entire organizational process. The criteria used for the Governor’s Awards for Performance Excellence are identical to those used by the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

redball.gif (102 bytes) AQP's National Team Excellence Award: This award is presented annually to teams which most clearly and effectively demonstrate the principles and techniques of improving quality through participation. Team video entries are first judged in preliminary rounds, from which top-scoring teams advance to the national competition at the Annual Spring Conference. This process, promotes business effectiveness through team-based management, provides national and international recognition, and encourages individuals, teams and organizations to excel in quality through participation practices.
