Command Climate Survey

The Command Climate Survey is required for use by commanders of company-size (and smaller) units. A Commander's Training Module is described below. The actual survey is available in two formats:

Automated - This is a Windows-based version of the Command Climate Survey. It permits administration and data collection on disks, single or multiple computers, Local Area Networks (LANs), and Web sites. The program compiles and analyzes the results and produces bar charts and tables that can be printed or displayed.

"Paper & Pencil" - This version is available for those who want to review the questions and/or conduct the survey without automation. There is no data compilation or analysis tool with this option.

There are two versions of the Command Climate Survey depending on the staff being surveyed. Click on the name of the “paper & pencil” survey you need [below] to download a PDF file of that survey. (1) CCS-TO&E – for surveying military personnel
    • Contains 24 preset questions, for example:
    • “Officers in this unit care about what happens to their Soldiers.”
    • “What level of conflict/stress are you experiencing in this unit?”
    • “To what extent do the persons in your chain of command treat you with respect?”
    • “How would you rate your current level of morale?”

    (2) CCS-TDA – for surveying both military and civilian personnel
    • Contains 60 preset questions, for example:
    • “I know what is expected of me on the job.”
    • “I feel my work performance is evaluated fairly.”
    • “Persons in my work group/work unit work effectively as a team.”
    • “To what extent do supervisors in your directorate treat you with respect?”

Commander's Training Module – Command Policy (AR 600-20) requires commanders of company-size units to conduct the "Command Climate Survey" as a tool for reviewing the climate factors (e.g., leadership, cohesion, morale) that impact their unit's effectiveness. This Training Module is designed to help commanders prepare to conduct a survey, read and interpret survey results, develop action plans based on survey findings, and conduct feedback sessions.
