Professional Development

Every 2 years auditors must receive a minimum of 80 hours of continuing professional education in order to meet the Comptroller General Government Auditing Standards. We encourage all auditors to continue their education and enhance their technical skills. Continuing education is viewed as a means of ensuring our employees maintain the ability to meet the challenges of the U.S. Army Audit Agency's mission.

On-the-Job

On-the-job training is an extensive part of the auditor career development program. New hires are assigned to various types of audits and attestation engagements and are given close supervision to make sure they understand audit standards and learn audit techniques. In addition, written performance objectives are provided to each auditor. The standards spell out the performance requirements for each auditor grade level. On-the-job progress is assessed on a continuous basis and employees are given feedback on their successes and on how to improve.

Formal Training

Formal training is used to supplement on-the-job training. Training starts with a few days of orientation about the Agency and the Army. During the first 6 months of experience, trainees attend the Introduction to Army Auditing School. As an auditor's career progresses, he or she attends the Intermediate Auditor, Senior Auditor, Audit Supervisor, and Audit Management schools. These training courses are supplemented by additional courses in communications, advanced audit techniques, and Army functions and operations.

Other professional courses include:

  • Army Comptrollership Program
  • White House Fellowships
  • Federal Executive Programs
  • Sustaining Base Leadership Course

Advanced Degrees and Certificates

Agency auditors are encouraged to pursue advanced degrees in related fields such as finance, economics, and business administration. The Agency fully or partially reimburses the costs of some advanced courses that closely match mission requirements. Auditors are encouraged to attain professional certifications and actively participate in professional accounting and auditing organizations.
